Abbie Ingram, PA-C
As a surgical Physician Assistant specialized in breast reconstruction for the past 16 years, I have had the honor of caring for breast reconstruction patients and safely guiding them through every aspect of their reconstructive journey. Part of this care includes nipple and areola tattoos. For 11 years I practiced the technique I was taught by the surgeons I worked with. As I started seeing women come to the office with 3-D tattoos, my interest in improving outcomes was sparked and 3-D nipple and areola tattooing is now a passion.
In 2019 I completed training in the permanent make-up industry to begin developing my 3-Dimensional tattooing skills. Since then, I have worked steadily to continue to improve realism and retention by working with body art tattooists who share my passion for nipple and areola restoration.
In order to offer the service outside of the hospital, I am a fully insured, licensed Body Art Practitioner (I never thought I’d say that in PA school!) I am excited to offer my extensive clinical experience and artistic expertise to you!
My Journey
in three steps
Barry University - 2007
Master of Clinical Medical Science, Physician Assistant Program
I completed my master’s degree in Clinical Medical Science, Physician Assistant Program in 2007 and flew straight home to Boston. I have always been drawn to surgery. Barry University helped me confirm that surgery was the place for me and when the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Brigham and Women’s offered me a position, I jumped at the chance.
Brigham and Womens Hospital -
2007 - Present
Chief Physician Assistant, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
As a PA at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, I have had the honor of working alongside some of the nation’s greatest plastic surgeons.
I worked for over a decade with Dr. Stephanie Caterson. Ninety-eight percent of the surgeries we performed were breast reconstructions. Dr. Caterson made me the practitioner I am today. She taught me conservative, safe, meticulous intraoperative and perioperative skills. She is my role model when it comes to patient care. Her down-to-earth bedside manner is something I have always admired and strive to achieve with every patient under my care.
The PArlor
Medical Tattoo Specialist
Part of my responsibilities as a Plastic Surgery PA is performing the nipple and areola tattoos.
For 11 years, I performed the medical tattoos I was trained to do during my first year as a PA. In 2019, my dear friend Brooke Konecny was training in permanent makeup and introduced me to a 3-D nipple and areola restoration technique offered at her academy. I completed that training and began honing my skills. Always striving to improve realism and retention, in 2023 I began working with body art tattooists who share my passion for nipple and areola restoration.
I love doing these tattoos for women and this has quickly become one of my favorite aspects of my job at BWH. Knowing there is a lack of safe, realistic tattoo options for patients outside of my practice, I obtained my body art practitioner license. I joined Brooke in her beautiful space and Dr. Douglas Helm opened his doors to me so that I may offer my services and experience to all!
